Asus Releases Source Code for Upcoming Transformer

Well now, it appears that Asus has already released the source code (no relation to the movie) for the up and coming, though yet to be released, Asus Transformer Tablet/Laptop. Asus actually released a new website completely dedicated to the Transformer and now things look to be getting even better. Just in case you didn't know or you were curious, the Asus EEE Pad Transformer is pretty much a top of the line Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet with a lot of very nice specifications attached to it.

Some of these specs include a 10-inch IPS display, the usual Tegra 2 dual-core processor and everything else you would expect to see in a respectable tablet these days. However, where this device is different is in its ability to plug into a keyboard-like device and "transforming" it (see what I did there?) into a full-fledged tablet and laptop, just like the Atrix from Motorola.

The tablet by itself recently popped its head up at Best Buy for $400, keyboard thingy not included. This is a really good price. While it isn't as good as the Xoom, which has 32GB of storage as opposed to the 16GB on the Transformer, it may be something to tease your eyes away from the iPad 2. The sad news is that the Transformer is not even on store shelves yet, well, not for us here in America at least, which makes this release of the source code seem a little premature.

However, a lot of people are praising Asus for doing this and think that other companies should take notice of this early source code release. Overall, this looks like a pretty cool device and definitely looks like it is worth the price you will be paying for it. Plus, who doesn't like things that transform and give you two separate devices for the price of one?

New Sharp PC-Z1

Sharp has launched a new PDA: the PC-Z1. Tech experts say it's very similar to Sharp's now defunct Zaurus. The PC-Z1 is a five inch, 1024 x600 TFT LCD touchscreen NetWalker smartbook. It features an 800MHz Freescale i.MX515 CPU built around the ARM Cortex-A8 architecture, 4GB of on-board flash storage (and is compatible with miscroSDHC expansion for an extra 16GB), 512MB of memory, 802.11b/g Wifi, 2x USB, and QWERTY keyboard going 68 percent of full-size. The PC-Z1 also has a quick three-second quick launch and a non-removable 10-hour battery.

Reviews haven't been all positive. There is no 3G data and some say that the "not a laptop but not a smartphone" category will make it a hard sell. The device will debut in Japan on September 25 for what equals to about $479 American dollars and there is no word when it will be available in the United States.

Gigabyte T1028 TouchNote

The Gigabyte T1028 is a one of the coolest little laptops I have seen recently. Announced back at CeBIT 2009, the T1028 is pretty neat. It has 10.1 inch 1042 x 600 LED backlit display which is standard on the device. It also has an Intel N280 1.66GHz processor or you can get it with the Atom N270 1.6GHz processor. It only comes with 1GB of RAM but is upgradeable to 2GB. The coolest features if this laptop has got to be the screen. Not only does the screen rotate for left and right and other directions, it is also a touch screen.

The feature list of this machine is also pretty good. It comes with the Windows XP Home operating system, Mobile Intel 945GSE Express Chipset, 10.1 inch TFT-LCD WSVGA 1024x600 LED backlit display, 2.5 inch 9.5mm SATA HDD 5400, 3 USB 2.0 ports, 1 mic in port, one earphone out port, D-Sub, RJ45, Express Card, 4-in-1 card reader, and 1 DC in port.

The T1028 also has 2 1.5 watt speakers, built-in V2.1 bluetooth, a 1.3M pixel webcam, Ethernet 10/100BASE-T for LAN, 802.11 b/g/h/ wireless LAN or 802.16WiMAX wireless LAN which is optional, HSDPA support, and a Lithium-ion 4 cell battery which gives you around 4hrs of battery life or a Lithium-ion 6 cell battery for around 6hrs of battery life.

Also included by Gigabyte is their Smart Manager App. It provides the user with the ability to change between stylus or finger buttons which toggles screen rotation, the touch screen, adjusts brightness, turns the wireless on or off.

This little guy is definitely worth looking at. The rotating touch screen is definitley a high selling point but the other features are also really good.
